On Dec. 1, 2015, with the opening ceremony of HSR Miaoli, Changhua and Yunlin Station hosted by President Ma, the three HSR stations were officially included in the HSR operational route.
Miaoli, Changhua and Yunlin Station are second-generation HSR stations that possess local characteristic features and green building standards making them modern architectural role models. The facilities of these stations have been improved based on passenger feedback and operational experience over the past eight years ever since the initiation of the HSR line. Additional facilities such as nursing room, family restroom, barrier-free facilities, drinking fountains, etc. have been installed in the new stations in hope of providing an even more thoughtful and comprehensive transportation environment for passengers. Among the newly installed apparatus, the new ticket gate model, auto-fare collection (AFC) machine, passenger information display and the local specialty stores are introduced as follows:
Ticket gate: in the original HSR ticket gate model, passengers have to insert the ticket in the instructed direction to successfully pass the ticket gate. Now, the new ticket machine will accept a valid ticket no matter from which direction. In consequence, the original 8 stations have upgraded their ticket gates to this new model.
AFC machine: the original AFC machines in the current 8 stations could only give change in the form of coins so when a passenger inserts a thousand dollar bill to purchase a short-distance ticket, they end up with a lot of change which is very troublesome. Now, the new AFC machine can give hundred dollar bill changes, successfully resolving this problem. The current 8 HSR stations will successively replace the current AFC machines with this newer model in the near future.
Passenger information display: with official operation of the three additional stops, train types were increased from 5 to 7 types including the "frog-style type" train. The current passenger information display shows incoming train information in a news ticker form, which is not that easy to read. The new display system will provide graphic display with corresponding station names and the platform with the incoming train will flash an indicating light making the display very readable and instinctive for passengers.
Local specialty store: the three additional stations have set its respective market and specialty store that will sell local specialties and agricultural produce. The specialty stores will be a pioneer in HSR stations representing the effort made by THSRC to promote local produce in Miaoli, Changhua and Yunlin areas.
After Dec. 1, 2015, HSR services will expand further with the operation of Miaoli, Changhua and Yunlin Station. Not only the access roads of respective stations have been improved or established but the highway and city bus routes have also been adjusted to achieve convenient transfer from the HSR station to other destinations. In addition, THSRC has set a free shuttle line for each of the stations to provide passengers with even more convenient transfer services.
With the opening of HSR Miaoli, Changhua and Yunlin Station, urban districts in western Taiwan will be connected even more closely. More passengers will be able to enjoy safe, on-time, high-quality transport services and have the opportunity to experience the HSR one-day life circle.
