Since official operation of the HSR System from 2007, this long-distance transport system has become the most significant system in western Taiwan and has proven its value to our citizens no matter in punctuality rate or service quality. Subsequent to the three additional stops, Miaoli, Yunlin and Changhua stations, which opened at end of last year, Nangang Station is on the verge of its opening on July, 2016. On Jan 28, 2016, THSRC held a ceremony to celebrate the first train arrival at Nangang Station.
The first train drove 9 kilometers from Taipei Main Station to Nangang Station which spent 7 minutes. After its arrival, the Sake Barrel-Breaking Ceremony took place. Participating parties included THSRC, Mitsubishi Corporation, Mitsubishi Corporation Taiwan Branch, Toshiba Corporation, Toshiba Electronics, MITSUI & CO., LTD., Mitsubishi Toshiba Shinkansen Co. (MTSC), TRA and the press. In addition, MOTC and BOHSR both sent representatives to give a speech on the occasion. The ceremony was led by MTSC (main contractor) representing the completion of system testing and parallel operation testing in Nangang Section. The ceremony was a boost to staff morale and also a symbol for the important milestone of the opening of Nangang Station.
HSR Nangang Station is the 12th station in the HSR engineering contract and with 3 platforms and 6 tracks, Nangang Station will resolve the current train distribution limitation in Taipei Main Station which only has 2 platforms and 4 tracks. In the new station, train distribution capacity and loading will be increased bringing an even more convenient transport system to the public of Taipei Metropolis.
