The container transportation system is part of the baggage handling equipment project which consists of roller conveyer, right-angled carrier, leveling bridge, offset conveyor, lift, etc. The major function of the system is to transport containers in between Taipei Main Station (A1) and Airport Terminal 2 Station (A13). When designing the system, the first requirement is to withstand maximum weight of 550 kg when the container is full of baggage; the other requirement regards the dimension and material of the container that must comply with the engineering interface requirements of train-borne equipment in order to facilitate smooth and efficient container transportation and meet operational time demands.
A set of roller conveyor is installed in the B3 platform level of A1 Station, the B2 platform level and B1 baggage handling area of A13 Station. The roller of the conveyor is motivated by the motor and driven by the chains and sprocket at the speed of 30 meters per minute. The function of lift in the A13 Station is to connect the train platform level and the baggage unloading area level. There are 2 lifts installed at each side of the platform to simultaneously transport 2 containers in order to enhance transport efficiency and provide backup function. The leveling bridges are used to connect on-board container handling system in order to load and unload the containers. There are a total of 20 sets of leveling bridges installed on the platform floor at A1 and A13 stations at 5 door positions at each side of the baggage car.
The container transportation system is fully automated and connected to on-board handling equipment in baggage car via wireless network to control container amount, number, and train door, platform door, on-board conveyor status and other information in order to accurately execute baggage handling operations.
