To cope with heavy traffic during the 3-day New Year holidays in 2017, THSRC added 94 additional trains inclusive of 1 non-reserved train. During the 5-day traffic dispersing period (2016/12/30 to 2017/1/3), a total of 802 trains were dispatched which was a 13% increase comparing to usual train frequency.
Jan. 2 was the peak of traffic for people to return back to work and there were as high as 188 HSR trains dispatched on that day. Through adjustment of train maintenance schedule, THSRC managed to improve transport capacity during peak hours and reached maximum of 7 one-way trains per hour.
During the holidays, total dispersed passenger count reached 920 thousand people, averaging 184 hundred passengers per day. The peak of passenger count happened on Jan. 2, reaching 221 hundred passengers per day.
During the New Year HSR traffic dispersing period, there were sufficient operative trains, well-mannered passengers, regular operation conditions, 100% train dispatch rate and 99.4% on-time rate. HSR functions were brought into full play, which resulted in the great success of traffic handling throughout western Taiwan.
