On Jan 31, 2017, President Tsai, Ing-Wen inspected the TIAA MRT System and was accompanied Minister Hochen, Tan of MOTC, Director General Hsiang-Lin Hu of BOHSR and Mayor Wen-Tsan Cheng of Taoyuan City Government. Concerned about the preparatory status for official operation of the system on Feb. 2, 2017, the President listened carefully starting from the introduction of the in-town check-in and baggage handling services. Then, the President took the MRT from Taipei Main Station (A1) to the Airport Terminal 2 Station (A13) to inspect the stations and train-related equipment and finally took the train to HSR Taoyuan Station (A18) at the end of this trip.
In the speech of President Tsai, she said that we shall welcome the TIAA MRT System in the brand new year. The TIAA MRT System is the country's longest MRT system crossing three municipalities while linking the international airport, high-speed rail, Taipei MRT and other important transport hubs. After the opening, not only Taoyuan City will enter the era of the MRT, Taiwan's public transport will move towards a new milestone because of the joining of the TIAA MRT service. The opening of the system will also drive local development of Taipei City, New Taipei City and Taoyuan City and increase the loading of connected transportation of Taoyuan International Airport. The President mentioned that it has been nearly 20 years waiting for the TIAA MRT to embark operations. The wait is way too long, so we have to make the system become worthwhile to encourage all the engineering staff.
In addition, President Tsai believes that the airport MRT is one of the most important impressions of the metropolis providing a new choice of transportation for the passengers when they get off the plane. She was delighted that after years of efforts, Taiwan finally has an airport MRT system representing a more advanced country, more convenient lifestyles and making international travelers feel deeply about Taiwan's progress and development.
