In order to demonstrate the results of the TIAA MRT System to the people through visualization, so that passengers can understand the street details near the station, public facilities outside the station, entrances and exits, the status of passenger route and facilities in the station in advance, the 3D Panorama Navigation System was developed. The navigation system was aimed to display the scenes to passengers before the ride as if personally experiencing the ride so that passengers can understand the entire space configuration of the MRT station, traveling route and station status information in the most streamlined way.
The TIAA MRT 3D Panorama Navigation System not only took spatial distribution of each station and passenger demands into consideration but also combined high altitude view, surface view and immersive station interior view to bring out station information introduction from far to near. “High Altitude View” can achieve the purpose of letting the passengers learn of the station facilities and surrounding street information prior to a TIAA MRT ride; the “Surface View” presents important facilities outside of the station, including entrance and exit signs, non-barrier facilities, bus stop information, parking lots and transfer information; as for “Station Interior View”, it allows passengers to know in advance the traveling route, major facilities and safety equipment such as the AFC machine, ticketing gate, platform safety apparatus, fire prevention apparatus, restrooms and non-barrier facilities.
In addition, the system also combines google search, navigation and map services to help passengers plan the best navigation path from the starting point to the destination station. This function can show traffic, the location of restaurants and schools around the station. For example, it can display the bus stop location and route name nearby the station to facilitate the transfer of passengers.
After the completion of the system, it can be accessed through the network from desktop computers, notebooks, tablets and smart phones and will also be available for APP download from mobile devices in the near future. The system’s goal is to provide TIAA MRT passengers with real-life experience. The system was completed in May 2017 and is now undergoing final testing.
