To create opportunities for advanced technology research and application in Taiwan’s green energy industry, the Executive Yuan based the Tainan HSR Station District as the core and planned to establish Shalun Green Energy Science City. In addition to bringing together surrounding green energy technology research and development, industrial R & D, living functions and other energies to shape the ecological city, the Shalun Green Energy Science City will also link green energy technology from upstream to downstream and integrate cross-regional science and technology settlements in southern Taiwan to create a model of green intelligent city as its goal. To promote sustainable energy use is consistent with the overall governmental energy policy and specific policy objectives.
Public constructions planning to be stationed in Tainan HSR Station District-Shalun Green Energy Science City are as follows:
1. Academia Sinica-Southern Branch (E & F Section): the project will be located at Lot 224 & 228 in Wudong Section with a total area of 15 hectares, managed by Academia Sinica. After the establishment of the Southern Branch, the research focus will be integration research based on industry-university cooperation advantages and development focuses in the Greater Tainan region, which will contribute to the academic research and industrial innovation and development in southern Taiwan.
2. Green Energy Technology Joint Research Center (C Section): the project will be located at Lot 226 in Wudong Section with a total area of 5.3 hectares, managed by Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST). This project will create opportunities for advanced technology research and application in Taiwan’s green energy industry, becoming the nation’s engine for green energy technology research and development to continuously develop green energy technology, promote the development of green industry and promote sustainable energy use.
3. Green Technology Demonstration Field (D Section): the project will be located at Lot 229 in Wudong Section with a total area of 7.4 hectares, managed by Ministry of Economic Affairs (MOEA). This is a demonstration field of green energy research and development results and could become the base to display Taiwan's new products and technologies of the green energy industry to the world and to expand the scope of international trade.
4. Greater Tainan International Expo Center (A Section): the project will be located at Lot 276 in Wudong Section with a total area of 5.2 hectares, managed by Tainan City Government. The expo center will combine Tainan's existing industry characteristics with exhibitions of various types of local industry. In addition, with cultural activities and exhibition center platform publicity, domestic and foreign industrial technology and business exchanges will be effectively increased, enhancing willingness of international buyers to visit the expo center and nearby manufacturing factories which will drive economic development in Tainan.
The above mentioned lands in the HSR station district will be sold after submission and approval by the Executive Yuan ,or leased to provide the necessary land for public constructions by BOHSR. Along with the adjacent the expo center Lot 276- 1 in Wudong Section, the 4.3-hectare Commercial / Manufacturing Park (A Section) will be a hotel industry investment development business case, creating a modern, advanced intelligent city via inter-departmental cooperation.
